Thirst is Real; Substitution is Empty

Most Americans live at full speed.  Our calendars are packed, and our "to do" lists are endless.  We fill our days with numbing 9-5 work and empty 5-11 pursuits.  Our personal schedules constantly push us on to the next meeting, game, class, committee, or other commitment.

We long for the weekend...only to collapse and try to regain enough strength to reenter Monday's maze.  We are prisoners of the clock.  No wonder we call ourselves the "human race"!

Perhaps we're addicted to busyness.  We certainly don't have to be.  Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28).

Rest is our birthright as believers.  But first we must make a conscious choice to put on the brakes and come aside to Him for relief from the relentless pressure we put on ourselves.
