FAQs
1. How old do I have to be to become a team member?
We require each applicant to be at least a high school graduate. Team members have a huge responsibility because they are constantly in the "public eye" as they minister to adults, youth, and children. All of us represent Christ to those we minister to, so we have to have a high standard of maturity that would bring glory to His name.
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
2. How much money do I have to raise?
The financial requirement for the 2009-2010 travel year:
$6295, which includes Life Action's health insurance
-Or-
$2,995, which does not include Life Action's health insurance
The fee that you choose will cover costs of staff training, lodging, meals, books and resource materials, ministry supplies, internship, and activities. In addition to this fee, we also recommend that each team member raise an extra monthly amount to take care of any personal needs such as extra snacks, medicine, gifts, cell phone, etc.
Note: This information is subject to change.
3. Where do the teams go?
Life Action is a non-denominational ministry, so we visit any church that will allow us to preach the gospel and proclaim biblical truth. We have been all over the United States, and we have even visited other countries a few times in the past!
Note: For a complete listing of Life Action summits, please click here.
4. How many team members are on each team?
The number of team members varies from team to team. The Blue Team and Conference (White)Team generally have summits at larger churches, so they need more team members. Usually a team will have about 15-25 members.
5. Where do the team members stay?
The team members have the privilege of staying in homes all across America. This is one of the most exciting and fun elements of traveling. The team gets to know many types of people in all different walks of life, and they have the opportunity of investing in many families.
6. How many months out of the year do the teams travel?
The teams will train for about a month, and then they will usually be on the road for about 9 months. Also, after their last summit and if they are not returning for another year, the team members will come back to minister during our Family Camps in Buchanan, MI. Those who return for another year will usually be released to come home and then come back to work the last few weeks of Family Camp.
Note: This information may change from year to year.
7. Do the teams have any "down time"?
Nope, sorry, you work non-stop for about 10 months. Just kidding! Yes, the team gets some quality time to relax. The teams have days off each summit and between each summit to enjoy their surroundings or get some much needed rest. One of the benefits of traveling is that you get to see so many beautiful places in this country. In the past our teams have visited places such as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and Gettysburg.
8. Where do the team members train in the summer?
The teams train at our Life Action Camp in Buchanan, MI. This beautiful lake-front property is located about 25 minutes north of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.
9. What can team members wear?
During the summit girls can wear dress pants and skirts, and jeans on specially appointed days. We desire to have a high standard of purity, so clothing should always be modest and feminine.
Guys can wear jeans on specially appointed days, casual and dress pants, and collared shirts.
This information varies from team to team, and it also can change when the team is doing a recreational activity. Staff Training also has different clothing guidelines because the team is in a more casual environment.
10. What do the teams travel in?
Vehicles. We like them to have wheels. Travel days are some of the most fun and relaxing days on the road. Each team has a semi-truck that hauls all of the sound equipment, materials, and personal possessions of each team member. The team members travel comfortably in a bus.
11. Do I need car insurance?
We don't require our team members to have car insurance, but we definitely prefer them to. At each summit, the church provides vehicles for the team members to use. Unfortunately, if the team member does not have insurance, they can not drive these vehicles.
12. What music style do the teams use?
We believe that our music should be glorifying to God in how it is performed and presented. Our desire is to create a worshipful atmosphere that focuses our attention on Christ and that communicates biblical truths and principles.
13. What music can I listen to while traveling?
Because we are in church situations with varied types of people and views on music, music played, listened to, and sung publicly should match the music style and philosophy of what Life Action performs on stage. Music other than that listened to or played publicly needs to be submitted to team leadership for approval.
14. What should I bring on the road?
The team members will have team clothing supplied for them for each service, so team members do not have to bring an excess amount of "church attire" on the road with them. Besides clothing and shoes, some helpful (but not required) things would be a laptop, cell phone, books, and note cards. AND, for those who can't sleep without some comforting noise, a small fan.
15. How much storage do I have on the semi-truck?
Each team member has a small, locker-type closet on the semi-truck that they can use to store personal clothing, shoes, books, and other items. They can also have a small suitcase to take into their host home. There is not a whole lot of space available, so they have to be selective in how much and what they bring on the road.
16. What is the daily schedule of the team?
Most weekdays look like this:
- Get up (which is hard to do).
- Get ready for the day.
- Have a quiet time.
- Go to the church for what is known as "Call Time."
- Rehearse, if you are a singer; plan out your lesson for the evening, if you are CM (children's minister). Teach, if you are a teacher. Work on audio and media if you are a tech.
- Eat lunch.
- Rehearse, plan, teach, or work again.
- Have some "free time."
- Go to Team Meeting with the Revivalist or another speaker.
- Eat dinner.
- Get ready for the service and have prayer time.
- Participate in the evening service.
- Go back to your host home.
*Note: Not all of the days look like this ... flexibility is a good thing, right?
17. How do I get money on the road?
The teams travel a lot, so receiving money can be a little tricky, but not hard. We recommend finding a nationwide bank and getting a debit card, so you can withdraw amounts while traveling. Also, the ministry offers direct deposit of personal support money.
18. What team will I be on?
Each team member needs to be flexible in this area, because many factors change during Staff Training. Some people are switched from team to team; on the other hand, some actually end up traveling with the team they are assigned to. The Lord always works out every situation for His glory.
19. Will I have Internet access?
Most of the time on the road you will be able to have limited Internet access, but there are a few rare cases where the team has to do without.
20. Can I travel more than one year?
Yes, you can. Traveling one year is great, but two years or more can be even better. First-year team members spend a lot of time "learning the ropes" and getting used to traveling, but second-year team members have the opportunity to grow even more in their walk with the Lord because they have already adjusted to road life.
