Everything rises and falls on biblical leadership. This issue of Spirit of Revival magazine helps define the essential characteristics as well as the potential pitfalls of a biblical leader. In an era when so many leaders are falling prey to the attack of Satan and the temptations of the flesh, it’s time for leaders to guard their hearts and fortify their spirits with the truth of God’s Word.

God's Word identifies not only the requirements for those in positions of spiritual leadership, but also the attitudes and actions we are to display toward our spiritual leaders. Use the following questions to help evaluate how well you are fulfilling your responsibilities as a follower.
"And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake" (I Thess. 5:13).

Since 1971, our teams have ministered in some 3000 churches throughout North America. In recent years, we have witnessed a growing tension in local churches between those with positions of spiritual leadership and those they are supposed to be leading.
Hardly a week passes that we do not hear of a major rift involving local church leadership. The conflict may be between a pastor and his congregation, between a pastor and his staff, between elders/deacons and the people they have been called to serve, or between the pastor and the elders/deacons who serve with him.
The resulting damage ...

- Let the thought sink deep into the heart of every church, that their minister will be such a minister as their prayers make him.
Would they have him come to them with a pounding heart, a burning eye, and ...

The freak accident that laid me on my back for several months caused me to stop long enough to hear God's voice. This question from the Great Shepherd came with gut wrenching force to my soul. A freak accident had laid me on my back for several months, causing me to stop long enough to hear God's voice. As I felt what others feel who face an unexpected calamity, I began to think of people in my church who had gone through a crisis during the past year. Had I really cared for them? Had I taken the ...

The epistle of I Timothy was written to instruct Timothy on how to minister to the church at Ephesus. The key phrase appears in verse 6: "Thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ. "Minister" is the translation of the Greek word diakonos, from which we get the English word deacon. It means "servant" and is used of those who hold the office of deacon in the church. Although the word is not used here in a technical way to designate that office, it implies that anyone who serves in any capacity in ministry must see himself as a ...

Revival is always a personal thing, and no one is used in revival who is not himself revived first. Those whom God uses in leadership in revival are always men who have met with God in a powerfully personal way. Someone has said that what the church needs today is heaven-anointed men, not human appointed machines. We have our leaders today, bunt rarely do they have the mark of God's Spirit upon them. They have become leaders by denominational progression or by their force of character, or by their organizing ability and their capacity for hard work. But men ...

Pride
The very fact that a man has risen to a position of leadership and prominence tends to engender a secret self-congratulation and pride which, if not checked, will unfit him for further advancement in the service of the kingdom, for "everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord" (Prov. 16:5). Strong and searching words, those! Nothing is more distasteful to God than self-conceit. That first and fundamental sin in essence aims at enthroning self at the expense of God. It was the sin that changed the anointed cherub, guardian of the throne of God ...

- Del Fehsenfeld Jr. answers questions asked by Don, a young pastor just starting out in the ministry.
"It seems that so few men of God end well. The sobering thing is that so many of them seem to have started out with good hearts and ministries. Why do so many end up disqualified and having to drop out of the race?
How can I be sure to make it all the way to the finish line?" Dear Don,
Thank you for your letter. I am so glad to know of your desire to please God with your life ...
