Double Exposure, Single Focus

Read how God recently convicted a man of hiding an idol in his home, and the freedom that came as he invited exposure and focused on obedience to Christ.

My wife and I hosted team members in our home during a follow-up summit in Dothan, AL. I prayed that we would be an example to the team and that our house would be an extension of the church.

As my wife and I were cleaning our house, I took eight liquor bottles out of our freezer, put them in a bag, and hid them under some clothes in our closet ...

Raging Fire

The nineteenth-century South African pastor and author Andrew Murray once said, “Jesus never taught his disciples how to preach, but he did teach them how to pray.” Implied is the idea that something vital is found in prayer that is not found in (as important as they are) our various ministry activities, including preaching. Without prayer, our souls can’t stay connected in any meaningful way to God Himself. For this reason, Jesus admonishes us to abide in Him and never give up in prayer; and Paul encourages us to pray continuously (John 15:1-7; Luke 18:1-8; 1 Thess ...

Ministry—Explainable or Unexplainable?

The need to grow in effectiveness in my God-given abilities is a given. And it requires diligent learning and practical enrichment for me to become the best I can be for the glory of God.

I try to read a few good books on leadership each year. The content I embrace may be extrabiblical but it cannot be unbiblical. So I am careful to digest them through a grid of biblical truth.

My library is made up of five larger sections and then a myriad of smaller ones. Sequentially by size, the five largest are:

  • Devotional (and Bible Helps)
  • Revival ...

What Is Revival To You?

I long for revival. But the revival I long for is not a tent meeting. It is not a series of church services designed to save the lost.

It is . . .      “breathing the breath of God”      “God purifying His church”      “people saturated with God”      “the inrush of the Spirit into a body that threatens to become a corpse”      “a work of God’s Spirit among His own people”      “simply New Testament Christianity, the saints getting back to normal”

What is revival to you?

For some of us, the word revival provokes images of sawdust trails, emotional outbursts, off-key singing, finger-pointing preaching ...

God's Grace at Work

We praise God that He is still in the business of redeeming and changing lives. It is our prayer that His work will never become commonplace to us. We don't want to lose the wonder of seeing His mercy poured out on undeserving sinners. Rejoice with us as you read about more trophies of His grace! These stories come from one of our road teams in a recent summit.

God seeks those who aren't necessarily seeking Him.

A girl who attends a nearby college has been attending the summit. She is part of a sorority and an avid ...

March 2012 Prayer Calendar

“You are part of a strong and growing movement of university students who yearn to again see the footprints of God on their campus, and what better way to honor our esteemed Guest than to prepare our hearts for His coming.”
- Michael Gleason

OneCry Launches: How the Movement Is SPREADING

The OneCry movement was officially launched today, and we are excited that the brand-new site at OneCry.com is now LIVE! Our goal is to help Christians everywhere become agents of spiritual awakening in their own circles of influence. And stories are pouring in about the creative and sometimes sacrificial steps people are taking to spread a passion for OneCry to their friends and communities:

  • An elderly couple picked up NINE truckloads of walnuts (some 3,000 lbs.!) in order to sell them for money to give to fuel the OneCry movement.
  • A retired businessman from Indiana who spends the ...

Much Is at Stake, Part 2

In my previous blog, I talked very briefly about some of the reasons my Twitter followers gave for people not pursuing God for revival.

After four decades of revival ministry, I'm convinced that the most persistent objections are not usually based on external factors, but are driven by internal matters of the heart. Fueled by various forms of pride, we decide that we just "don't want to go there." The risks associated with honesty, humility, surrender, obedience, brokenness, repentance, and confession seem to outweigh any reward. Or so we think.

With so many reasons purported for resisting revival ...

Much Is at Stake

I've been thinking lately that no one really objects to the claim that the church in America needs spiritual renewal. And few object to the concept that the Spirit's transformation begins with individuals (sometimes we just think it needs to begin with someone else!).

But when it comes to corporate revival, the consensus ends there and questions begin.

Recently, I asked those who follow me on Twitter to share why they believe so many have a resistance to revival. Based on the responses I received, the top two reasons people don't pursue God for revival are: (1 ...
