What would happen if our nation stopped to seek God on behalf of its 18.2 million college students? What would happen if we cried out to God together for the next generation?
Believe it or not, over a 100-year time span, our nation reserved a special day each year to do this very thing. The Collegiate Day of Prayer has been reestablished in order to give the body of Christ an opportunity to pray for its colleges and universities. Last February, we became aware of over 700 campuses and churches who joined us to pray. This year we are hoping for 2,000.
Will You Pray?
Join us on February 23, 2012, to pray for our nation’s students and campuses. Register at www.CollegiateDayOfPrayer.org or join us on Facebook.
Praying for College Students
Collegiate Impact’s vision is to see this generation experience and even lead the next Great Awakening in America. Though they may not vocalize it, they do covet our prayers. Below is a partial list by a pastor in Oklahoma that describes Generation Y and can give guidance to our prayers.
- Overload – They are going through a quarter-life crisis—over-stimulated, over-worked, over-stressed, but underpaid.
- Identity – They are still defining themselves and their beliefs.
- Jesus – They don’t get organized religion, but sometimes they do get Jesus.
- Relationships – They are delaying marriage, cohabiting, and staying home longer.
- Spirituality – They want a provocative, challenging faith that’s culturally aware. They want a vision of church and life worth dying for.
- Finances – They are in debt from the beginning of their adult life.
- Leadership – They are looking for authenticity and opportunity.
- Community – They thrive in organic structures (coffee shops, small groups, etc.).
- Mentorship – They are looking for you to “be with” them, not “talk at” them.
- Christianity – They search for religious information from books, podcasts, Wikipedia, or various preachers instead of going to the Bible.
