Last Man Kneeling

Saturday I was somewhat surprised that a dozen Notre Dame players were courageous enough to take the position of prayer just prior to kickoff.

But I was even more amazed that one of those players continued in prayer for an extended time . . . after everyone else was finished . . . all alone . . . before 70,000 observers. He seemed more concerned about praying until he was finished than merely following the formality of his peers.

It reminded me of how I've always felt it ironic that when people pray, they all seem to finish at the same time. No one ever wants to be the last one kneeling. Unless they truly care about "praying through."

Leonard Ravenhill
was one of the most prolific authors and passionate revivalists of the last century. And he was a dear friend of Life Action. The idea of "praying through" was something I learned from him. It has various connotations, but usurping them all is praying until we "hear" from God. In a letter dated August 1990, he reminded me, "A man must hear the voice of God before he can be a voice for God."

Do we pray until we hear God speak? Even if it means we are the last ones kneeling? If not, then let's not expect to be a voice in this hour where God's people are longing for a message from heaven. And let's not be so bold to think God will use us as instruments of revival if we do not take time to hear from Him!

Let's begin right now, this week, seeking to hear from Him on behalf of the various ministry opportunities before us.

Interesting perspective. I've often thought "I'm not finished" but never carried it through! What an encouraging word! By the way the blog looks great!
