God at Work in the Hearts of His People

In a church where one of our teams ministered recently, the people were asked to identify and write down their idols. They were then encouraged to come forward and leave those cards at the altar, symbolizing their surrender to Jesus. Here are some of the idols they listed:

• Fear of man
• Success
• Job
• Financial security
• Appearance
• Music/Entertainment
• Lust
• Control
• Sports
• Vehicles
• Possessions
• Food
• Fitness
• Sleep
• Family
• Relationships
• Desire for a spouse
• Desire for children/grandchildren
• Friends
• Facebook
• Phone
• Self-righteousness
• Future

"All day I've struggled with what it would look like for me to surrender all that I have to the Lord, and He revealed to me places of idolatry in my life such as my relationships with friends, boyfriend, school, my future. All of these things consumed my thoughts, and I didn't even realize it until tonight. I surrender these things to the Lord."

"I surrender my greed and desire for material things."

"I need to give up my love of self. Oh, how very selfish I am, and too proud to have known it, aside from the grace of the Lord. I have given in to the lie that my wedding is ALL about ME, ME, ME, ME. Nothing is about me. I am nothing apart from Him."

"I surrender my efforts to control my marriage, time spent on the Internet, telling people I will pray and not following through, more concern for my problems than for my friends."

Please pray that God will continue to speak to these people through His Word, bringing conviction and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Pray that this church will sense God's consuming presence. Pray that God will bring revival, and that these dear people will continue to live in the power of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ.
