"Prayer does business with God. Prayer creates hunger for souls; hunger for souls creates prayer. The understanding soul prays, the praying soul gets understanding. To the soul who prays in self-owned weakness, the Lord gives His strength."
- Leonard Ravenhill
Pray
1 The focus of our ministry this month is "Living/Giving," meaning that God materially blesses us so that we can bless others. Please pray that our personal lives and ministry will be characterized by sacrificial giving that furthers Christ's kingdom.
2 As the True Woman conference in Indianapolis draws near, ask the Lord to provide volunteers for prayer, resource center, hospitality, deaf/Spanish interpretation, registration, and more.
3 Tom Jones has been serving with Life Action for 26 years, creating excellent graphic design for our various publications. Praise the Lord for his faithfulness and humble spirit. Please pray for him and his wife, Danna, as they grieve the recent loss of her father.
4 "Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it" (Luke 17:33). In what ways are you trying to keep your life? How are you losing your life for Christ? May you diligently seek the Lord about these critical areas today.
5 The Red Team begins their first summit of this travel year today at First Baptist Church in Sulphur, Louisiana. Please pray that each team member will humbly rely on God so that He may powerfully work through them for His glory.
6 As you celebrate Labor Day today, thank the Lord for the gift of work, and ask Him to help you be a diligent worker.
7 As many children and teenagers across our nation return to school, please pray that God will protect their minds and hearts from the deadly lies and influences of the Enemy.
8 Pray for God to raise up godly teachers and staff members in public schools to model and share with young people their eternal worth and God's unconditional love for them.
9 René Hanebutt, Event Coordinator for Revive Our Hearts, is very active with the True Woman conferences. Please ask God to strengthen and protect her as she conducts pre-conference meetings in various cities and manages the volunteers.
10 One month ago, our staff family experienced our annual Revival Week. In our personal areas of conviction, please intercede for God to transform us more to Christ's image. We need His grace daily to put into practice what we have learned.
11 Today is the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. Pray that the families who lost loved ones will know and grow in Christ's love, and praise the Lord for His gracious protection over our country since then!
12 Praise the Lord today for the grandparents in your family's life, and then do something special to show them your love.
13 Please remember John Myers in prayer today as he concludes a pre-summit weekend with Raiford Road Church in Macclenny, Florida. Ask God to give each staff member wisdom, direction, and excitement for what He is going to do in their midst.
14 The Revival Conference Team began their first THIRST conference of this travel year at Peace Church in Wilson, North Carolina, this past Sunday. Pray that the Prince of Peace will bring repentance and spiritual healing to His body there.
15 The Blue Team began their first summit this past Sunday at Old Town Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Please ask God to bring a powerful season of revival and spiritual awakening to this church and community.
16 May we desperately cry out to the Lord for a revival of prayer in our nation, in response to the words of Jeremiah's prayer: "Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge you, on the peoples who do not call on your name" (Jer. 10:25).
17 Today through Sunday, The Lodge will be hosting a Partner Appreciation Weekend for ministry friends. Pray that this time will be spiritually fruitful and encouraging in the Lord.
18 The Jewish holiday Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) is today. As Jews celebrate this holiest day of their year by confessing and trying to absolve themselves before God, pray that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes to see that atonement comes through Christ's blood alone.
19 As Lane Gordon speaks on revival at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ozark, Alabama, today as part of a pre-summit weekend, pray that God will ignite His people with passion for new life in Christ.
20 Yesterday the Revival Conference Team began a 4-day THIRST conference at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ask God to anoint Ryan Loveing as he speaks, that many may be revived.
21 "Jesus said, 'Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?'" (John 11:40). Intercede for Christians to believe God so that His glory may permeate this world, and the spiritually dead receive new life.
22 Praise and worship the Lord today for His matchless beauty as seen in His Word, His character, and His creation.
23 The True Woman conference in Indianapolis begins tonight, with thousands of women and girls attending. Please pray for traveling safety and for hearts to long for God's will to be done in their lives no matter the cost.
24 Pray for the True Woman speaker team today, including Crawford and Karen Loritts, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Fern Nichols, Mary Kassian, and Janet Parshall, as they share what God has laid on their hearts. Pray especially for Dannah Gresh and Erin Davis as they lead the Teen Track for ages 13-19.
25 As the True Woman conference concludes today, pray for the ongoing efforts of the True Woman Manifesto, a document the women will be challenged to sign before they leave. Pray that many will not only be hearers of the Word but also courageous doers of it at home.
26 At New Life Community Church in Inwood, West Virginia, the Blue Team begins a 15-day summit today. Intercede for the church body to faithfully seek and obey the Lord during their time together and afterward.
27 Today a week-long Pastors' Retreat begins at The Lodge. Please pray that God's Spirit will move and reign over this time and that the pastoral couples will be spiritually renewed.
28 The Revival Conference Team is in the midst of a 4-day THIRST conference at Loudonville Community Church in Loudonville, New York. Ask God to create a deep hunger and thirst for His presence and purity in their midst.
29 Ask the Lord to refresh and renew Nancy Leigh DeMoss and the Revive Our Hearts team as they regroup after a busy True Woman conference and prepare for another in mid-October.
30 "Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire'" (Heb. 12:28-29).
Live
Have you ever thought about the amazing power of money to dictate and enslave us? Money is not bad in itself, but God says our love of it "is a root of all kinds of evil." It has drawn some away from the Lord, and they have thereby "pierced themselves with many griefs" (1 Tim. 6:10).
How can we conquer an unhealthy love affair with something so deceptive and alluring? Following are a few helpful suggestions. Ultimately, God's advice is best: "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you ...'" (Heb. 13:5). Your greatest possession is Him alone!
- Agree with God that you love money more than Him, that your love of money has power and control over your life, and that your love of money is sin.
- Seek God for forgiveness for loving money, cleansing from loving money, and power over the love of money.
- Submit to God by loving Him completely; by placing your total security, dependence, and trust in things which cannot be taken away (God's Word and the Holy Spirit); by acknowledging His ownership rights over everything He has entrusted to you, and letting Him make all of your final decisions; by looking at material things from His point of view-accepting the love of money as a continuing temptation, translating losses as God's reminder of the futility of riches, and learning to be content with food and clothing.
Give
In our materialistic, entertainment-driven, self-focused culture, it is very easy to excuse our lack of giving with the assumption that we don't have enough money or resources. After all, we have sports events to attend, movies to see, restaurants to visit, new clothes to buy, and more. But are those things really important or eternally satisfying? Will they bring Jesus to others?
On the other hand, there are some who really cannot give much in these economically difficult times. Even giving a ten percent tithe is asking a lot because of children to feed, doctor bills, car payments, etc.
Remember that God wants you to give out of what you have. He says, "For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have" (2 Cor. 8:12).
Please take a moment to consider some questions that might help you be a better giver:
- What are all of the material possessions God has entrusted to you? What other non-material resources (e.g., time, talents) has God given you that you might invest in His kingdom?
- Do you usually expect God to meet your needs through others' giving rather than through your own giving?
- When you hear of a need, do you ask the Lord if He wants you to help meet it?
