Will You Join Us in Prayer for Our Nation?

In the spring of 2011, I took some extended time away to seek God for fresh vision in how to lead Life Action into the next decade. I was reflecting on the upcoming formal celebration of Life Action’s 40 years of igniting movements of authentic Christianity across America. I was burdened to build on Life Action’s legacy of calling believers to true transformation through repentance, brokenness, confession, and divine intervention. I remember asking God what it was going to take to set the sails and catch the wind of another Great Awakening. At that time God impressed on ...

Even Without Words

What praying without ceasing looks like Have you ever watched those sweet older couples who have started to look like each other? The ones who have been married maybe longer than you’ve been alive? Have you noticed how they enjoy being together and are constantly communicating—even without words? How do you think they got to that place in their relationship? Did they spend much time together? Have long conversations? Work through a few issues? Share many experiences? Watching couples like that helps me understand “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). I’ve often questioned what that means ...

Escaping the Treadmill: Mayra Beltran de Ortiz’s Story

Every day, Mayra Beltran de Ortiz used to leave her plush office and work out on exercise machines. It wasn't because she was trying to stay in shape. Mayra made many decisions, including her daily exercise routine, based on what other people would think.

She was vice president of one of the fastest-growing health clubs in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. As an executive at the health club, she felt obligated to set a good example for the 200 employees she managed.

Mayra remembers what her priorities were like at that time: "If you had asked me what a true ...

From Generation to Generation

The following are testimonies from a recent summit at Rileyville Baptist Church, as well as an excerpt taken from another blog which explains the accompanying photo.

**********

We give God glory for His fresh move in our hearts and home, as well as those of many who attended the summit at Rileyville Baptist Church. We have pages and pages of testimonies like the ones below. You will want to read more!

Before you read those testimonies, let me tell you about the picture on this blog post. A grandfather is on his knees in a testimony service, asking his grandson's ...

Revival Fire

In the depths of a hurting heart lies the kindling for a revival fire. All it takes is one spark of the Holy Spirit’s work, and that broken life can become a blazing bonfire of God’s glory. This church is coming ablaze as many troubled people surrender their pain to God. A common theme running through nearly all the testimonies shared at this church is the issue of bitterness. This church draws a lot of broken, hurting people, and their anger and resentment is perhaps the greatest hurdle they face. The statistics here are appalling. Eighty percent of ...

Join the Movement (Part 2)

In my last blog, I shared with you that I long for the kind of authentic movement of God to take place today that the early church experienced as a result of what God did in the lives of His children as recorded in Acts 1–2.

On a couple of occasions, I have actually been where the Spirit's fire fell and the wind blew.  The refreshing breeze of God's presence still lingers in my soul. In fact, I doubt that a single day has passed for the last 37 years without my dreaming about another Spiritual Awakening ...

Join the Movement (Part 1)

Last year I visited the Grand Canyon for the first time. I was awed. And curious! I had heard claims that this was the place to experience the biggest echo on earth.

I listened carefully at multiple locations around the rim, peering down into the sprawling crevices. But despite the activity and conversations of tourists all around me, there were no echoes. I left disappointed.

But later that night, I watched on YouTube as a man blew a trumpet from the depths of the canyon, followed by almost indescribable reverberations! Somewhere, a hiker had risked the arduous journey to the ...

His Incomparable Mercy

Good Friday. For believers, it is the day on which we remember the death of Christ—His pain, suffering, and separation from His heavenly Father—which, in retrospect, was our deserving. Though it was an awful day, it changed the course of our eternity and fulfilled a covenant promise that couldn’t be denied as fact (Isaiah 53:5). It was true: Jesus had died for the sins of the world. In our Lord’s death, we find unconditional love and the incomparable mercy that is able to consume our guilt and sin. A day when darkness seemed to triumph ...

Resisting Drift – “Bracketology 101”

An estimated 45% of Americans filled out brackets for this year's NCAA college basketball tournament. But the bracket on the bottom (right) was the winning one ... 35 years ago. And it's the kind of diagram the founder of basketball desired most.

March Madness might better be called March Sadness.

Why? Because the inventor of basketball would be deeply grieved if he knew how far the game has drifted from its original purpose. The founder, James Naismith, was convinced that he could better exemplify the Christian life through sports than in the pulpit; so after attending a Presbyterian Theological ...
